Alison McKenzie: RMT
I discovered massage therapy in the midst of years of dance and movement training. Curious for a deeper understanding of anatomy, physiology, and injury prevention, I moved to Vancouver in 2007 to study at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy. My practice is rooted in empowering and educating others by way of the innate knowledge of the body through somatics. I am inspired by the unique make up of each individual. By unfolding how to access the inherent intelligence that we all possess, we transform structure and movement patterns.
I use a variety of Swedish and deep tissue techniques through my treatments, supported by Bartenieff Fundamentals and developmental movement patterns. I am experienced with a wide variety of conditions, and have a strong focus on pre and post natal care through the transformative time for women during childbearing. I am also a Certified Movement Analyst. While training at the Laban Institute of Movement Studies in New York I also continued to dance and perform in the city with a contemporary focused company. My massage therapy practice is deeply inspired by this profound experience of somatic integration. I continue to train and travel internationally, and am focused on improvisational dance making and analysis.
I bring years of dynamic movement knowledge to my treatments to help clients understand and expand their movement repertoire by meeting the body with presence and compassion.
